In 2011, he took a step to which he continuously contributed over the years. Micky Haxhiislami, together with his friends, opened a page on Facebook called “Albanian Vintage Photography”. There he continuously publishes photographs related to Albanian culture.
This is how he acted separately with the Albanian xhubleta, a garment which he intended to identify in UNESCO as Albanian clothing. His interest in this garment began with the realization that the Serbian state intended to acquire the lute as their permanent cultural heritage.
“This shocked me too much and from then on I started to be interested in what I can do to raise the awareness of Albanians about this and thus also put pressure on the Albanian institutions, since Kosovo is still not a member of UNESCO,” says Haxhiislami in an interview for Atlantiku.
Therefore, from that time on, he says that he continuously published photos and stories of jubilation so that Albanians could be informed about its importance.
Thus, Haxhiislami came into contact with the Ministry of Culture of Albania, with whom he collaborated to find xhubleta workers in Albania.
“This makes me extremely happy, and a friend of mine from Tirana put me in touch with the people who were appointed by the Ministry of Culture to be good with this noble mission. And so I came in contact with them and offered you some of my help. Through a my friend from Peja, Mrs. Gjylnaze Sylen, who has been living in Italy for a long time, we found some hand workers of Xhubleta in Albania, which are very rare, and that’s how it all starts,” he says for Atlaniku.
Now the lobbying for the recognition and identification of Albanian culture continues with the plis, which is aiming to be recognized by UNESCO.
