In honor of the Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, the Association “Friends of America” today lit candles and lowered the American flag to half-mast.

Agim Rexhepi, chairman of the association, said that Queen Elizabeth II was an outstanding figure who, together with the British state, helped Kosovo before and after the war.

“We have organized this event with great desire and respect. Queen Elizabeth II is a charismatic personality, which at first glance seems to only have effects or ceremonial actions in Great Britain, but history has proven that that lady or the British royal court has tremendous influence and effects. The other effects, which have pushed me, but I also believe all the Albanian people for such an action, is that Great Britain, British institutions, the British people before the war, during the war, but also after the war have taken extraordinary action , first to preserve the substance of our people, then in the creation of political and military institutions of the new state of Kosovo”, he said.

Rexhepi justified the undertaking of this action, as he called it symbolic, in honor of the British queen.

“We are aware that this action probably should not have been done by us as the “Friends of America” Association, but seeing that others did not act, it seemed reasonable to us to at least do a symbolic action to show respect from soul and from the heart to Queen Elizabeth II, to Great Britain and the British people,” he said.

The flag will remain at half-mast for five consecutive days. Queen Elizabeth II will be buried on September 19
