The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that international pressure should be put on Serbia in order to reach an agreement on the persons who disappeared violently during the war in Kosovo.
Osmani made these comments while paying homage in front of the obelisk in Pristina dedicated to missing persons, on the International Day of the Disappeared.
“As you know, in the dialogue with Serbia, the issue of the disappeared with violence has been prioritized and the institutions of Kosovo are doing their best so that through this process, eventually Serbia will provide all the data that would lead us to the clarification of the fate of those forcibly disappeared from the last war in Kosovo”, said Osmani.
Within the dialogue mediated by the European Union, Kosovo and Serbia are also talking about the issue of missing persons.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who is the bearer of the political dialogue, has stated earlier that Serbia was not ready in the August 18 round to sign the “agreed document” on the issue of missing persons.
He said that the disagreements between Kosovo and Serbia, regarding the agreement, have to do with its text. Kosovo requests that the term “disappearance by force” be used, while Serbia requests the use of the term “disappeared persons”.
“Unfortunately, Serbia has not yet accepted this proposal, but we hope that with international pressure, this agreement will eventually be reached, which would pave the way for clarifying the fate of the forcibly disappeared”, emphasized Osmani.
Kurti, together with Osmani, paid homage in front of the obelisk for the missing and repeated to the media his request that Serbia open the state archives, to clarify the fate of the missing.
The Ambassador of the United States of America in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, also paid tribute to the obelisk dedicated to the missing persons during the war in Kosovo.
