Kurti: Reciprocity on license plates will be implemented, there is no other alternative

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, in a joint conference with the Secretary of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the decision on reciprocity with license plates towards Serbia will be implemented, calling it completely legitimate.

“We have made a decision to enable all Serbian citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to change the plates that are the same since 1999, the same as in the time of Milosevic, to convert them into legitimate, registration plates that are with the acronym RKS”, said Kurti.

“In this regard, we have launched a campaign to inform Serbian citizens, but we have also created a kind of financial incentive, since during the change of signs, Serbian citizens will not have to pay VAT, customs or excise that may go up to 5,000 euros. We will continue with this information campaign, as well as we will implement this type of conversion or change of tables”.

Tuje, the head of the government, said that even the state of Serbia itself has agreed from 2018 that it will no longer produce signs with abbreviations of Kosovar cities, during the negotiations in Brussels.

“Furthermore, Serbia itself has agreed since mid-January 2018 that it will no longer produce such signs in Serbia, and they will not force Serbs to use them, so 4 years later, yes implement something that is in accordance with the Constitution and our laws, and on the other hand, also being in accordance with the commitments of Serbia and their obligations assumed during their negotiations in Brussels, so there is no other alternative, and I believe that it is in the interest of all of us to do everything legitimate in our country”, he said.
